Don’t forget about this month’s drive!

James Flowers is hosting the May drive next weekend, May 18th.

For those in the Des Moines area, Jeremy Moyle will be putting together a caravan from MINI of Des Moines to Bethany. Route yet to be decided. He is considering going down Hwy 65/69. More to come later this week on the Facebook account. Right now he is expecting to leave MINI of DM between 8 and 8:15am on Saturday. If you have not RSVP’d yet please do so by responding to this email or via the Facebook page.

EDIT: Update from Jeremy

I will be leading a caravan leaving from Mini of DM between 8 and 8:15 heading down Hwy 69.  It will be a 2 hr and 45 minute trip to Bethany.  I will have a couple sheets of directions to hand out before we leave.  I will also have two Motorola Talkabout FR60 radios so bring a handheld radio if you have one.

April 20-21, 2013 – Photo Scavenger Hunt in the Des Moines area

Pick the day that works for you: Saturday or Sunday, April 20th or 21st, 2013
Join us for a Photo Scavenger Hunt in the Des Moines Metro area.

Beginning at 2 pm on both days, you will meet up with Jeremy Moyle at MINI of Des Moines and be given a list of phrases with one word missing.

Your job is to figure out the missing word and then photograph it on any sign, building, etc that you find in the area.  There is a strict 2 hour time limit.
Return to MINI of Des Moines when you have all the answers, or by 4 pm at the latest. Jeremy and crew will tally the results to see who comes out on top.

Example:  Pillsbury Doughboy – Poppin ______
E.g., Take a picture of a Subway sign, highlighting the word Fresh in your picture

Don’t forget that Willis is also having their Spring Cleaning Sales event (and maybe a new buyer car clinic on the 20th) so the sales staff will probably be really busy on Saturday and therefore less chatty than usual.

Volunteer Opportunity

As you saw in the previous post, there is a great Teen Safe Driving Program on May 18th. This program is also in need of volunteers that day at the Iowa Speedway’s parking lot. This program is s a joint effort of the local BMW club and Des Moines Valley Region SCCA, with help coming in from Corvette, Mustang, and Subaru clubs. Let’s add the word MINI to that list, too.

If you’re interested in helping to make this program a success, please register at this link on the Motorsportreg.com page. If you have any trouble navigating this website, you can also contact registrar Becky Brighton by email.

Important Notice From Your Central Iowa MINI Club

SPECIAL GUEST FOR DINNER TOMORROW NIGHT

Rob Melick, Regional Manager for MINI USA, will be the featured speaker at the club’s meeting tomorrow night.

The meeting will be TOMORROW, Sunday, April 7 at the Wig and Pen Restaurant in Ankeny. That’s located on the east side of US 69, directly opposite the main entrance to DMACC. We’ll get started at 5:00 p.m., and Rob will be presenting information on what’s new and upcoming in the MINI world.

As usual, we’ll order dinner from the Wig and Pen menu, and the restaurant will prepare individual bills for each of us. Rob’s presentation should take between 30 and 45 minutes, and he will leave sufficient time for questions and answers. In addition, Rob will have a new MINI with him that we can all drool over prior to dinner.

It would be great to have a large group of MINI enthusiasts and owners present to show Rob we’re growing and having fun in the process. Please RSVP and let us know that you’ll be able to attend so that we can plan the space within the room accordingly.

Hope to see everyone there tomorrow evening.

Sunday, June 16, 2013 (Father’s Day), Take Me Out to the Ball Game at Principal Park

Take Me Out to the Ball Game… for Father’s Day at Principal Park… to see the Iowa Cubs take on the Omaha Storm Chasers at 1:05 pm.

While it’s super fun to get together for driving events, it’s also nice to take a little time to get to know the folks behind the wheels – and those folding the maps –  of the other MINI Coopers, too.

The ballpark has been generous enough to set aside a special “MINIs parking only” area that afternoon so that we can show off our Motoring Buddies.

By the way: the MINI-only parking area will be open to all MINI Coopers, not just CIMC members, so if you’ve been sitting on the fence about joining, here’s a great chance to get meet us (and get primo parking at the same time).

Because the CIMC rate includes discounted ticket, parking and food, it is essential that all Club members interested RSVPs by April 7. Rates are related to the number of people interested in attending so grab your keys, your loved ones, and your iCubs foam finger and join us at the ball park.

This is sure to be a great way to spend a special day – and someone else gets to do the clean up.

May 18, 2013 – Joint Drive for CIMC/KCME Groups

James Flowers has done it again.

On Saturday, May 18, 2013, starting at 11:00am at 100 N 16th Street in Bethany, MO, the CIMC will be gathering with the drivers from the Kansas City MINI Enthusiasts for a drive through the countryside – from nowhere to nowhere, but with lots of curves in between. We’ll do a “fast” group for the more spirited drivers and a “slow” group for those that just want to relax and enjoy the area.

The preliminary plan is to have a short meeting on the town square in Bethany, MO to distribute maps and info, then a jaunt over to the Sonic in town for a quick lunch (make it light – hills aren’t good for the stomach!) and then we’ll line up in the Wal-Mart parking lot and drive at noon.

Stops will probably include Leon, IA and Lamoni, IA. Not sure where we’ll finish yet!

September 2012 – Swamp Fox Parade in Marion, Iowa

At the start in Marion During the parade Maddie Spencer Parade is done (1) Parade is done (4)Parade is done (2) Parade is done (3)

CIMC members participated in 2012 annual Swamp Fox Parade, a celebration of the past and the present, which honors Marion’s namesake and Revolutionary War hero, Francis Marion, aka the Swamp Fox. The perfect weather made for a fun time showing off our favorite little machines and helping the city of Marion celebrate their own special place in Iowa.
