Reason for drive: Pat Acton has just finished his latest creation for the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not museum in New York City – a flying steampunk locomotive standing nearly nine feet tall that required more than 1,000,000 matchsticks and 13 months of work. It is on display at his museum in Gladbrook during July, after which it will be shipped to New York for permanent display.

Date: Saturday, July 11

Departure details: 10:00 a.m. from Smokey D’s, have lunch somewhere along the route, and arrive in Gladbrook shortly after the museum opens at 1:00 p.m.

Return to Des Moines will be on your own – you can leave the museum when you are through with your visit or you can wander around beautiful downtown Gladbrook until there are others in the group who want to join you for the drive home.

Admission Fee: The museum charges $5.00 admission for adults and $3.00 admission for children between the ages of 5 and 12. There is no senior discount

June Drive

Shortest Distance Rally for June. Be at MINI of Des Moines by 12:45 for the driver’s meeting with the first car leaving at 1 pm.

What is a Shortest Distance Rally?
A shortest distance rally is an un-timed Road Rally following an undefined route. Instead of receiving route instructions and timing intervals, contestants are given a map or maps, and a list of questions to be answered by visiting specific locations on the map. Thus, the goal is to visit all the required sites in the traversing the shortest distance possible.

February Bowling Event / Members’ Meeting

Saturday February 20 at 3:00pm – 5:00pm

100 Ashworth Rd, West Des Moines, Iowa 50265
Jake is organizing a bowling outing/meeting for Saturday February 20.  Please RSVP to me with the number of those that will be bowling.  Jake says “The food can be really really greasy (I know from experience), however, Val allows food to be brought in if you are wanting to eat during the event.”
It will cost around $5.50 per game per person. If our party is 20 or more, we don’t pay for shoes.  We’ll bowl 2 games, so roughly $11 a person.
